Appalachian State University

Appalachian State University was founded in 1899. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Appalachian is one of 17 campuses in the University of North Carolina System and enrolls more than 19,000 students, has a low student-to-faculty ratio and offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate majors.

Appalachian prepares students to lead purposeful lives as global citizens who understand and engage their responsibilities in creating a sustainable future for all.


BELMONT ABBEY COLLEGE

Belmont Abbey College is a private liberal arts Catholic college located in Belmont, North Carolina, about 15 miles west of Uptown Charlotte. It was founded in 1876 by the Benedictine monks of Belmont Abbey. The school is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and the Order of Saint Benedict. It is endorsed by The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College.

Offering an undergraduate education, the college enrolls students from diverse ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds.

CENTRAL PIEDMONT COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is a large community college in Charlotte, NC. Named Central Piedmont Community College by statute and commonly known as CPCC or Central Piedmont, its more than 70,000 students make it the largest community college in the North Carolina Community College System.

The school was founded in 1963; it is the result of a merger between Mecklenburg College and the Central Industrial Education Center. Now the College consists of six satellite campuses and an extensive “Virtual Campus”, all in the Charlotte Metro area.

In 2012, US President Barack Obama invoked CPCC in his State of the Union Address.

DAVIDSON COLLEGE

Davidson College was founded in 1837 by ministers of the Concord Presbytery. Its 1,700 students come from almost every state in the nation and many foreign countries. With a highly selective admissions process and NCAA Division I athletics, Davidson College is a diverse, historical and prestigious campus.

Davidson College is over 170 years old so there are many buildings and features of the campus that date back to its early days and provide a great history of the school. One of the oldest buildings in the town, Carolina Inn, has been a part of the campus since 1946. The “Old Quad” is perhaps the most historic part of the campus, containing four of the oldest buildings. The historic Oak Row and Elm Row, built in 1836-37, were the original dormitories of Davidson. Eumenean (“Eu”) and Philanthropic (“Phi”) Halls were built in 1850 and named for secret societies that met there. The new Chambers building was built in 1929 in the same spot as the old Chambers building, which burnt down in 1921. With continuing renovations and numerous historical buildings, the Davidson campus is a great mix of a charming past and a promising future.

JOHNSON C. SMITH UNIVERSITY

Johnson C. Smith University is a private, co-ed, four-year research university of higher learning in the heart of Charlotte, NC. It is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and is a historically black college. JCSU offers an assortment of academic programs aimed at ensuring that its graduates are prepared for success in the workforce. JCSU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs and Council on Social Work Accreditation. The school awards Bacehlor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work degrees to its graduates.

KING’S COLLEGE

King’s College is a junior college in Charlotte, North Carolina and has been in existence for over a century. King’s College offers certificates and associate’s degrees in business, healthcare and technology.

The college is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) as well as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY

Lenoir-Rhyne’s 100-acre campus is located in Hickory, North Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They’re an hour from the mountains and about four hours from the beach.

LR is a private, co-educational university affiliated with the NC Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and open to students from all religious backgrounds. They enroll about 1850 students in the liberal arts, sciences and pre-professional programs. Their sports teams compete in District II of the NCAA and in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).

QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE

Queens University of Charlotte is a private, co-educational, comprehensive university located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The school has approximately 2,400 undergraduate and graduate students through the College of Arts and Sciences, the McColl School of Business, the Wayland H. Cato, Jr. School of Education, the James L. Knight School of Communication, Hayworth College for Adult Studies and the Andrew Blair College of Health, which features the Presbyterian School of Nursing. Established in 1857, the university offers 39 undergraduate majors and 80 concentrations, and 19 graduate programs.

UNC CHARLOTTE

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, also known as UNC Charlotte or UNCC, is a public research university located in Charlotte, North Carolina. UNC Charlotte offers 20 doctoral, 63 master’s and 90 bachelor’s degree programs through nine colleges: The College of Arts & Architecture, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Belk College of Business, the College of Computing and Informatics, the College of Education, the William States Lee College of Engineering, the College of Health and Human Services, the Honors College and the University College.

UNC Charlotte has three campuses: Charlotte Research Institute Campus, Center City Campus and the main campus, located in University City. The main campus sits on 1,000 wooded acres with approximately 75 buildings about 10 miles from Uptown Charlotte.

The university is the largest institution of higher education in the Charlotte region.
